Oprah's Favorite Things: Le Creuset Oprah's Ultimate Collection of Cookware

By

In Oprah’s final year of the Oprah show on TV the 2010 list of favorite things was more like an ultimate list of her favorite things.  On this year’s list she included the cookware that Julia Child loved and that Oprah herself touts as being enough to complete any kitchen’s cookware.  Did I mention it's one of my favorite kinds of cookware too, not that my opinion matters like Julia Child or Oprah.
So what is the cookware that made Oprah’s Favorite Things list of 2010, Le Creuset; and in honor of Oprah they released the 25th Anniversary Le Creuset Oprah’s Ultimate Collection.  Le Creuset stoneware is know for being just that, stoneware, but in recent years they have added stainless steel cookware as well as many of the accessories we need  like silicone spatulas and trivets.

While the “Oprah set” contains 10 pieces (3 of which are lids), by itself it is quite pricey (near $600), you can still buy some of the individual pieces from this list which will make a great gift for someone else or yourself and the best thing about them is that they come in lots of different colors.

5 1/2 Le Creuset Round French Oven-

This cast iron French oven is the perfect size for cooking things like soups, stews and roasts in (which is what I use my yellow one for). Cast iron helps cook your food more evenly by equally distributing the heat.

10 ¼” Le Creuset Iron Handle Skillet-

These skillets are perfect with their iron handles and sides that are designed so you can pour out of them.  Unlike most cast iron skillets, these don’t need to be seasoned and aren’t going to absorb the food’s scents and flavors that you cook in which is the number one complaint against cast-iron aside from maybe how heavy they are.

Le Creuset Stainless Steel 2qt Saucepan-

This Le Creuset 2 Qt saucepan comes with a precision pour rim and a lid.  The stainless steel is Try-Ply and these are amongst the newest additions to Le Creuset.   If you have wanted to use this brand of cookware but didn’t want the heavy cast iron or stoneware this gives you the chance to try it out.  This is perfect to make sauces in.

Le Creuset Tri-Ply Stainless Steel 2-Quart Covered Saucepan
I'm not sure if this is the exact 2 quart saucepan featured on Oprah...
Amazon Price: $104.95
List Price: $140.00

Le Creuset Stainless Steel 11” Frypan-

The other stainless steel piece in the collection is this 11” fry pan which is much deeper than a regular skillet.   It also uses the try-ply coating and also is made to cook your food evenly.

Le Creuset 3-Ply Stainless-Steel 11-Inch Fry Pan
Amazon Price: $90.00
List Price: $110.00

6 Qt Stockpot Le Creuset-

No kitchen is complete without a stockpot.  It’s perfect to boil spaghetti in or prepare large amounts of soup in.  This stock pot is made of gauge carbon steel and comes in all of the colors that Le Creuset generally comes in and comes with the lid.

Le Creuset Silicone Small Spatula Spoon, White
the show featured the spatula spoon in the medium size, this one is a small.
Amazon Price: $5.93
List Price: $13.00
Le Creuset Medium Silicone Spatula, Cobalt
Amazon Price: $13.00
List Price: $18.00

Medium Spatula-

Le Creuset silicone spatulas are made to be heat resistant and be dishwasher safe. This particular spatula comes with a wooden handle and is designed with a double edge so that it can scrape any type of pot or pan you need.

Spatula Spoon-

Spatula spoons are nice because they let you stir up and mix the food and use to dish the food out reducing the amount of kitchen utensils you need.

I Also Recommend

While the Le Creuset Casserole Dishes didn't make this cookware set. I still strongly suggest getting one. They come in the same colors and in quite a few shapes and sizes, one is even shaped like a heart, while others are shaped like fruits and vegetables.
